Most students receive financial support immediately upon acceptance to the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. This support most often takes the form of a research assistantship. No special application is required for consideration for financial support.

Students with outstanding undergraduate records may be eligible for a number of special awards. The Edward E. Smissman Fellowship is awarded each year to an incoming graduate student with exceptional promise.
Outstanding domestic students and permanent U.S. residents can compete to become a trainee on a predoctoral medicinal chemistry/pharmacology training grant awarded to the department by the National Institutes of Health.
Self Graduate Fellowships and Graduate Honors Fellowships are available to incoming graduate students throughout the university. The university also provides fellowships to outstanding graduate students during the last year of doctoral study.
