"Environment: The (University of) Kansas Med Chem department has a great history of producing great research and great young researchers. It is the most successful medicinal chemistry program in the country; there is no better place to do the proposed work."
The statement above was taken from the review critique of a research grant proposal submitted to the National Institutes of Health for one of the department's many externally funded research projects. One of the things such review panels evaluate in deciding whether to fund a proposal or not is the environment where the work will be done.
